Santa Clara, CA – Cloud Expo 2011 – November 8, 2011 – ActiveState, the dynamic language experts offering solutions for Perl, Python, Tcl and other web languages, has announced today several new management and monitoring features to ActiveState Stackato, the infrastructure-agnostic, multilingual private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution.

With this release, ActiveState releases new cloud application management and monitoring functionality.

  • New Admin Dashboard: The Stackato Admin Dashboard now offers deep visibility into the activity and events in a private cloud to help administrators better manage usage. This includes activities of developers who deployed an application, number of instances deployed, memory usage, data services deployed, and languages used.
  • Application Monitoring with New Relic integration: Earlier this year, ActiveState announced its partnership with New Relic to provide real-time application monitoring. New Relic Standard Edition, now integrated with Stackato for Java, PHP, Python and Ruby applications, is now available free of charge for users. This enables monitoring of end-user experiences and application performance, to proactively diagnose performance bottlenecks at the code level. Together, Stackato and New Relic create a powerful end-to-end that meet high standards for performance and end-user satisfaction.
  • Improvements in Java deployment to Stackato from Spring Tool Suite (STS) and Eclipse: ActiveState enables Java developers to use their existing desktop development environments to deploy directly from their desktop to the cloud.
  • Full open beta: ActiveState is now out of private beta and is fully open to any cloud/IT administrators or developers that want to try or test a private PaaS.

“PaaS offerings represent a critical space within the broader cloud ecosystem, as they provide the linkage between application platforms and underlying cloud infrastructures,” according to Forrester Research, Inc. in the report “The Forrester Wave™: Platform-As-A-Service For Vendor Strategy Professionals, Q2 2011” (May 19, 2011).

“With IT and cloud administrators now being able to offer more self-service to developers through a private PaaS, the role of monitoring and managing applications is critical for IT to provide a reliable, available, and scalable private cloud,” said Bart Copeland, President & CEO, ActiveState Software. “As an enterprise-grade private PaaS, Stackato provides development teams with the power of choice, while empowering IT with the tools to effectively manage the PaaS and reduce complexity.”

Stackato, built on the Cloud Foundry open source project and extended for the enterprise, enables a private PaaS for Python, Java, Ruby, PHP, Perl, and Node.js applications. Stackato enables customers to deploy an application to a private internal cloud (like one powered by vSphere or other hypervisor) or one hosted with a provider like Amazon EC2.

ActiveState is exhibiting at this week’s Cloud Computing Expo in Santa Clara, California in booth #415. Developers and cloud administrators can participate in the open beta program for Stackato with a micro cloud or sandbox.
