VANCOUVER, British Columbia – September 26, 2000 – ActiveState, a leading provider of Internet programming software and services, announced the opening of its one-of-a-kind, high tech facility in downtown Vancouver. The building has been updated with cutting edge technology such as an Internet Protocol (IP) based telephone system from Cisco Systems Canada and high-speed 100MB Internet access. However the space retains a cool, retro feel with funky 50's features, such as an old-fashioned mail drop chute, incorporated into the new development.
"We're delighted to have a space that's conducive for the mental and physical health of our employees such as morning yoga classes and a hot tub for unwinding at the end of the day", said Dick Hardt, Founder & CEO, ActiveState. "Plus the lounge can accommodate gatherings of over 200, which for example allows us to share the knowledge and experience of our world renown developers with our free evening Technical Lecture Series."
"Kundalini Yoga is more than exercise and meditation. It coaxes forth the brightness of our spirit to set alight the full potential of our being. Awakened creativity, glowing health and positive attitude is the natural result of this practice", said Dharm Kaur Yoga Instructor, Yoga West.
The on-site amenities include:
- Open concept with natural and non-fluorescent lighting
- Proximity access card managed security
- Rooftop deck, secured bike racks, and showers
- 14 foot exposed ceilings
- VoIP phones and 100MB Internet Access
"We are excited to work with ActiveState in standards-based telephony based on the Internet", says Rod Weir, AVVID Solutions Manager, Cisco Systems Canada. "Converging voice and data communications onto a single network based on the Internet Protocol eliminates the complexity and expense of managing separate voice and data networks."
"We congratulate ActiveState on their recent move into the heart of Vancouver. Their landmark renovations at 580 Granville Street will definitely encourage others in the high-tech industry to follow suit," said Phil Hearn, Commercial & Investment Division, Royal LePage "Dick's guidance into the redevelopment of this 'core profile' location has definitely created a new benchmark for high-tech in a downtown environment."
"The building is truly an all in one solution, which allowed us to jump into full development instantly," said Russ Bullock COO Piranha Games and tenant. "The combination of the building's design and features, along with the nearby amenities create a very positive working environment."
"The new space is definitely a great asset from the employee's perspective. The secured bike locks, showers and laundry make it an easy commute", said Dr. David Ascher, ActiveState Senior Developer and recent arrival from San Francisco. "I especially like the 'airy' feel of the space, it's very similar to the high tech offices in the Bay area. The open floor plan allows for easy team communication, it's definitely _not_ the usual 'sea-of-cubicles' office."
ActiveState's official opening is Friday September 29 to select guests.
